Do I need it?
If you already have a soap dish that drains properly, no — any raised, open dish does the same job. What doesn't work is a flat dish, a shelf corner, or the shower floor. That's where a two-month bar turns into a three-week one, and it's the most common reason people email us saying theirs went too fast.
Where to put it
Out of the direct spray if you can. A shelf, a windowsill, the edge of the bath — anywhere the bar isn't being rinsed every time someone showers. Even a well-draining dish won't help if water is landing on the bar all day.
What it's made of
Moso bamboo with a water-resistant seal, and silicone feet so it grips a wet surface. No plastic tray underneath. It weathers to a slightly deeper colour over the first few months, which is bamboo doing what bamboo does.

A solid bar has no water in it, which is the whole point — it's also why it draws water in the moment you leave it in a puddle. Sitting in one, a bar softens, swells and washes away. Left to drain, the same bar dries out between uses and lasts 10 days more

The bar stays soft, swells and rounds off. Most people get three to max four weeks out of it and assume that's normal.
On the dock
It dries hard between washes and wears down evenly. 30-40 days is typical, longer with shorter hair.

Can I put it on a subscription?
No, and you shouldn't want to — it lasts for years. It comes free with a Scalp Bar subscription, and after that you never need another.
Will bamboo go mouldy in a shower?
Not if it can dry, which is what the raised slats and the feet are for. If you keep it in the direct spray it will stay wet like anything else would. Once a month, wipe it with a cloth and let it air properly.
Does the conditioner bar fit too?
Yes, both bars fit side by side, and the brush stands on it as well. It's sized for the full set rather than one product.
Can I use a normal soap dish instead?
Absolutely, as long as it drains and the bar isn't sitting in water. We'd rather you used a dish you already own than bought one you don't need.
How do I clean it?
Rinse and wipe. If it starts to look dull after a year, a light rub with a cloth and a drop of oil brings the colour back.
